This summer, I had the chance to spend a relaxing week in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My wife and I spent the days lounging about, walking our dog on the beach, swimming and walking around the picturesque towns of Well Fleet and Provincetown.

Lots of seafood, wine and salt water taffy…and more wine.

I couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. And as we drove back down to New York, we looked back on those idyllic days and started planning our next trip back up. In our car, we packed a few souvenirs infused with the colors and smells of that lovely piece of New England – shells, seaglass and a box of softly colored salt water taffy.

Back in New York City, the tranquility we experienced in Cape Cod was quickly replaced by the frenetic pace of the city; and, soon after, I found myself back in CURVE at Jacob Javits. It’s a great show, but it’s always a bit stressful to take it all in just a day or two.

Luckily, there was an oasis of calm at the Love and Dream booth. Designer and founder, Darcy Frye had set up her space to reflect the same tranquility and beauty I had just left behind in Cape Cod – complete with a bowl of salt water taffy.

The new SS13 Love and Dream collection was aptly inspired by the sea and summers in New England.

“Colors are a calm blue to represent the ocean and sunlight yellow for the way light reflects on the water at dawn,” said Darcy. “The soft ivory laces are reminiscent of nautical bracelets and roping on sailboats. Some exciting features of this collection are a new gorgeous lightweight cotton perfect for hot summer nights and wide statement laces. The ending effect is lightweight and ethereal.”

It’s a beautiful collection that inspires you to slow down and reflect on the pieces. For me, it tugged at my longing to go on another vacation by the beach.
