Maia Toys Preview
It’s all about a great product and profit margin. As a former retailer, I understand that every item on the floor has a price per square foot that must be met. Maia offers that to the retailer.
(Editor’s Note: The Business of Pleasure is our new spin-off publication geared towards all things kink and retail including toys and sexual health products. In the next few weeks, we’ll be showcasing some of the articles here on the Lingerie Journal with links back to our sister site for the full read. Please tell us what you think!)
At the last edition of the International Lingerie show, we had the pleasure of meeting Mara Epstein, the founder of the new pleasure product company, Maia Toys. At the show, we were impressed by Maia’s bold use of color, offerings, and the company’s extremely competitive price points. We wanted to learn more, so we sat down with Mara for a Q&A session and we wanted to share with our readers Mara’s insights into toys and retail.
Q&A with Mara Epstein
Mara, could you tell us a little bit about how and why you started Maia Toys? What did you want to bring to your customers when you started the brand?
After having worked for a high-end toy company, I realized that people were interested in quality and great design. I thought if I can fill a void with fashion forward colors, 100% medical grade silicon, cute packaging at more cost effective prices I would hit the ground running. As a result, Maia Toys was born!
You had mentioned at the show, one of the features of your brand is the price point. You’ve made your collection super affordable without sacrificing quality or features. Could you expand on this?
Since we are working with a partner based out of Asia, we have created discounts that would benefit the distributors and retailers. It’s all about a great product and profit margin. As a former retailer, I understand that every item on the floor has a price per square foot that must be met. Maia offers that to the retailer.
“In today’s evolving business world, it is important to tap into alternative markets. The days of focusing solely on the adult niche stores is over.”
You were just at the ANE/ILS Show, could you tell us how that went for you? What shows are you planning on exhibiting at next?
The show was a great way for us to showcase our products to the lingerie market. In today’s evolving business world, it is important to tap into alternative markets. The days of focusing solely on the adult niche stores is over. Our packaging is helping to make our products an item that can be proudly displayed anywhere. Maia will support all trade events that are promoted through our trade publications like Xbiz and AVN. We will also support alternative trade shows such as women’s health.
