I have to admit that I didn’t immediately jump on the social media train. I bought a ticket, stood on the platform, and kind of people-watched for a while. Sure, I created a Facebook page so that my customers could “like” me. Yes, I opened a Twitter account so that I would tweet about in-store news.
Yet, sometimes it felt painful updating my social sites, not fun. How can you keep a meaningful conversation going when you are busy with the day-to-day operations of your business?
HootSuite touts that their product helps organizations use the social web to launch marketing campaigns, identify and grow audience, and distribute targeted messages across multiple channels. What makes this dashboard unique in that it allows individuals or multiple team members to schedule updates to Twitter, Facebook, WordPress, Linkedin and other social networks via the web or a mobile phone. HootSuite gives you the power to call the shots over your social web presence by scheduling your posts and tweets well in advance.
“HootSuite is special in that it allows you to manage all of your social networks on the same page (including Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Foursquare & more)” – Jennifer Manuel Carroll
While you can already use Facebook to update Twitter, and it’s possible to link various social networks together individually, HootSuite is special in that it allows you to manage all of your social networks on the same page (including Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Foursquare & more).
I contacted HootSuite and asked them how businesses, specifically, can benefit from their service. It turns out that HootSuite was developed with growing businesses in mind. HootSuite offers a real-time search for brand and industry terms so you can gather candid opinions about your company and find customers searching for your products or services. Also, using built-in analytics tools, you can see precisely which links attract clicks to help refine your tactics. Finally, you can collaborate with teams without sharing passwords and even geo-locate searches to see updates in your local area.
HootSuite has gained a lot of street-cred since its launch in December 2008. Accolades include awards from Mashable’s Open Web, Canadian New Media, and the Shorty Awards. The fact that organizations such as the White House and Martha Stewart Media have utilized the application provided enough incentive for me to test it out.
Signing up was simple. You start by importing all of your social sites in to HootSuite. The user interface is incredibly easy to use. You can upload pictures and links on to one or all of your social media accounts–you choose what you send where, and when. I also downloaded the app for my BlackBerry which is quite user-friendly and convenient to use on the go.
In a nutshell, HootSuite makes maintaining an online presence easier. Being able to plan marketing campaigns well in advance saves time and effort. It is easy to sign up, learn and use HootSuite within minutes of creating an account. I encourage any business owner to join me and learn why they should be sweet on HootSuite.
