A Thing of Beauty Lingerie Opens
This year on Valentine’s Day, A Thing of Beauty Lingerie will be opening its online doors, offering elegant ready to wear and custom lingerie in a wide range of sizes and made of high quality materials. All pieces are carefully handmade to order in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, and can be found on athingofbeautylingerie.com.
Owner and creator, Helena Smith graduated from Dalhousie University’s Costume Studies program. She has been perfecting her fit and sizing since then in order to fully integrate function and style. Her work celebrates the human body and brings high-end lingerie to wearers of many sizes.
The collections of this first season to be released are inspired by the liminal spaces in life: between night and day; fantasy and reality; rain and shine; now and then. Underclothing embodies a similar liminal space between the private body and the outer garments shown to the world.
“Because wearing a garment so close to the skin is an intensely intimate experience,” says Smith, “several designs are lined with silk, and care is always taken to choose the softest, most wearer-friendly laces.”
Supporting women matters to Smith in more ways than one, and so A Thing of Beauty Lingerie will be donating $5 CAD from every bra sold online to groups promoting women’s rights. At the time of writing, another donor will match every donation up to $500, meaning that for every purchase, $10 will go towards a good cause.
