AW13 Trends Spotted at The Lingerie Collective
Last week I visited The Lingerie Collective‘s trade event held at The Vinyl Factory in London’s Soho. Armed with a camera and fierce passion for all things lingerie, I noticed several trends abound for the coming AW13 season.
Touring around The Lingerie Collective I noticed quite a few brands showing collections in soft, muted tons of nude, cream, and blush. Dentelle Etc. had a breathtaking teddy in a baby pink print accented with black lace. Felice Art Couture’s entire collection was made up of decadent cream and tan pieces featuring lace, crystals, and feathers. Shell Belle Couture had a line of 1930’s inspired nightgowns crafted in satin and lace. It is clear that the upcoming release of the Great Gatsby movie inspired many of the exhibitors as many pieces showcased drop waists and the use of heavy applique.
With the rise in popularity of the book series Fifty Shades of Gray, it was not surprising to see several exhibitors feature slightly more risqué pieces. BlueBella had a line entirely dedicated to the BDSM series and showed a wonderfully fun cupless bra with chiffon ruffles. Cage and bondage inspired designs were seen at Bordelle, Parah, Lascivious, and Something Wicked. Darkest Star’s entire range was made up of pieces that served dual purposes: to be worn or seen during the day but turn into tools of pleasure at night. Lascivious showed a slightly more bold line of rose gold accessories, including a face/mouth piece, while Something Wicked had an amazing collection of leather handcuffs in one and half inch widths that can be worn as bracelets during the day. Sophistication was the key word for these collections. Nothing appeared too hard or scary. It was clear many of the brands were taking their first steps into the world of BDSM.
Red and Violet Hues
Many of the exhibitors displayed pieces in red and violet hues. BlueBella in particular had several sets and nightgowns crafted in warm scarlet. There was a fun color block body suit by Else that featured deep crimson lace while Kriss Soonik showed a line in bold fire hydrant red mesh. Playful pinks made their appearance in collections by Parah, Made by Niki, Underprotection, and Claudette. Purple and violet tones were shown through many of the Les Jupons de Tess’ AW13 range and a few of Claudette’s Dessous mesh bras.
