“I love how chic and sleek my physique looks in this corset.” – Kim “Kimmay” Caldwell.

The corset. Once the epitome of women’s undergarments, it is now typically reserved for period dramas or a sexy occasion. I have mixed memories of that scene in Titanic when Kate Winslet’s character’s mother, played by Frances Fisher, laces up her corset with strict instructions for how she should proceed with her life.

Terrifying! Painful! And, somehow…glamorous. The corset can be an alluring addition to a woman’s undergarment or ready-to-wear wardrobe. So when Baci Lingerie offered the tailored looking Suit Inspired Tank Corset for my review, I jumped on board!

I have worn gorgeous corsets in the past from brands like La Perla. Geared more toward the ready-to-wear side of fashion, these sexy numbers included lace, stretch fabric and a zipper. So I was completely surprised and intrigued when Baci’s corset arrived with stiff material, hook-and-eye closure, lots of laces, and zero zippers.

Right off the bat, I noted that the construction of this corset is top notch. Even compared to brands with a higher price point, the attention to detail and sturdy design are impressive. I also noticed that the material is very firm, and the steel boning within was much more rigid than any other corset I’d tried.

Ready to get right into it, I opened the package, carefully unhooked each hook and eye up the front and slipped the corset onto my back. I brought the front together to close it and stopped. There was a good six to eight inches between the hooks and the eyes. And it wouldn’t budge. Oh boy.

I slipped off the corset and untied the ribbon lacing up the back and, little by little, opened the back. Eager to see what kind of progress I made, I put the corset on again, only to see that it was not even close to closing again. On and on I went like this until I finally gave in and called in my husband for support.

“Honey, come help me get into this!” Once he arrived, he was both intrigued and frustrated. Completely lost with the laces, he attempted to evenly loosen the corset while I desperately tried to secure the front.

Did I get the wrong size?, I wondered. According to the size chart, I was in fact a medium. So why wouldn’t it close?

Finally, after much loosening and evening out, I was finally able to meet each hook-and-eye and fastened it around my bosom and waist. Phew! That was hard work. I asked my husband to tie up the back and tighten it around my waist.

“How do I look?” I asked.

“Uncomfortable.” My husband replied.

Hmmm. Tough crowd.

After some fidgeting with my bust and a few selfies in the bathroom mirror, my husband asked: “How would you get into this without my help?” Good question.

I gave it some thought as I unfastened the corset. It is much easier to take off than to put on! I decided it was best to call in reinforcements for better photos and some styling help so I set up a photo shoot with my friend and lingerie model, Elisa Pupko. Because the corset was already loosened it was easier to fasten, but still took several tries. And it took Elisa’s attention to detail in the back to fasten, adjust and tie my laces.

Were the results worth all that work? Yes!

I paired the corset with a simple black pencil skirt and some cat eye sunglasses. I love how chic and sleek my physique looks in this corset. And WOW! For a small to moderately busted woman, my set looks positively playful!

I believe that, with its ready-to-wear material and sleek construction, this corset is more suited to an evening out rather than the bedroom. However, make sure you skip plans for exercising or a big meal – the rigid structure of this corset is not for the faint of heart. And don’t forget to use the buddy system when fastening up the back!

Overall, I think this corset it well made, attractive, and downright sexy! What do you think?
