Curvy Couture Partners with The B Word for NY Fashion Week
Curvy Couture fans know best that your size of your body does not determine your time in the spotlight. So with New York Fashion Week on the horizon, the brand set out to make a splash. Working with Brianna McDonnell of The B Word Blog: https://thebwordblog.com/, Curvy Couture produced a photoshoot that featured several of their best-selling styles on Fashion Week’s hottest plus-size models.
The photoshoot showed off styles including the Beautiful Bliss Lace Unlined Bra in Blush Pink, Eternal Eyelash Lace Bra and matching Garter Belt and the fan favorite, Strapless Sensation, and featured the iconic New York Fashion Week as its backdrop. The presence of the brand during this major industry event helped to reinforce the message that plus-size people need more representation in this industry, Brianna says.
“I wanted to bring a brand I believed into NYFW, a space where plus people and brands are not encouraged to join, to shatter that mentality,” she says. “Fashion is for every body type, and we deserve to be at the largest fashion event of the year.”
“I think it’s extremely important to not only have brands who cater to plus people at fashion week but to also have brands created by plus people at fashion week,” Brianna adds. “Representation goes far beyond who is on the runway, it’s important to have diversity within the companies showing. From the photographers at the shows, makeup and hair artists, etc; the CEO to customer service, companies should work towards including diverse voices.”
Brianna has been working towards getting more representation for plus size women in media as a creative director and content producer. The B Word is Brianna’s plus size fashion blog, where she covers topics such as body confidence and being bold and comfortable in your own skin.
Her partnership with Curvy Couture was a natural fit. “They really care about the plus customer,” Brianna says. She quickly fell in love with the product after wearing it, not to mention she shared a similar mission statement with the brand.
Summer Rose Beltran, social media manager for Curvy Couture says the partnership was a no-brainer. “I love the passion she has for the plus-size community and wanting to push boundaries,” she says. “We support and share a lot of the same views and synergies.”
Summer adds that the brand will continue to work for greater representation for women of all sizes in the media. “We need to continue to show up, have visibility to say we’re not going anywhere,” she says. “Being able to creatively make content during this time makes sense for a forward-thinking plus-size brand like Curvy Couture.”
