Curvy Kate Collaborates with De Montford U Students
For the second year, Curvy Kate is collaborating with De Montford University students to find the next big thing in the D plus lingerie design world. The 37 students have been set the task to create a D+ piece to fit the brand’s focus on fit, fashion and support; with an accompanying marketing strategy promoting the brand philosophies.
The second year students will be given six weeks to design and produce a piece for the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection from either the Curvy Kate or Showgirl range. New to the module this year will be the marketing element to increase the student’s awareness of how their product would fit commercially in the industry.
The students will present their final designs in a catwalk show, with 10 students then being chosen to present their marketing brief and designs in front of a panel of judges. The panel will consist of the Curvy Kate team, Laura Savery Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University and Lotte Debell, Editor of Lingerie Buyer.
The students will need to provide extensive background research on how they reached the final product. The undergraduate to design the winning piece, which fits in with Curvy Kate’s unique range, will see their work developed, as well as an all expense paid trip to Paris to have their design exhibited at Salon International in July.
Curvy Kate Managing Director, Steve Hudson, continued: “In its second year we are really exciting to see the new talent coming through from De Montfort University. The winner of last year’s competition, Sarah Greenwood produced a piece that is now one of the brand’s best sellers for AW11. It is brilliant for Curvy Kate to be involved with this design innovation and we are looking forward to seeing the new ideas flowing through.’
The competition launched on Friday 25th February and a winner will be announced in May.
