Fresh, New Styles Arrive from Avery Rose
The new line stays true to the original Avery Rose style of blending sophisticated style with a hint of sparkle. However, it also introduces something new—the brand’s first range of wired bras. And along with them, a newly-expanded size range that goes up to a DD cup.
“The process of designing an underwire bra was a challenge. It definitely was harder than I anticipated,” says Jennifer Coll, CEO.
The effort was well worth it, because the wired bras in this new collection are simply gorgeous!
The Jayne bra, my personal favorite, is made from a sheer lace. Woven through with metallic thread, the fabric sits perfectly alongside crystal-encrusted straps. Similar straps are featured on most of the other bras, a direct response to all the customer requests Jennifer received for shoulder details that could be flaunted.
The other underwired bras are the sultry Leticia, made from a combination of lace and faux leather; the Joelle in swirly brocade lace; the Kym, a black lace bra with glittering Swarovski® detail; and the Raquel, which uses textured metallic fabric and on-trend elastic strapping.
These bras may be lovely to look at, but that’s not all they are. They’ve been designed to fit great, too. “We wanted a comfortable wire, [it] was something we worked hard at finding”, explains Jennifer, “We wanted to stay away from a traditional U shape wire and use a more opened-up shape that allowed for the wire not to ‘dig’ into the side of the breast, while still being supportive. We’re having our own designed for production as we couldn’t find a wire in that shape that went beyond a C cup.”
Of course, for those who prefer bralettes the new collection still includes plenty to get excited about. After a debut collection that was mostly monochrome, Coll was keen to add some color to the follow-up range.
The Lily set, originally available in black sequinned lace, now also comes in merlot red. The same red lace has been used for the new Alexis, a longline bralette with racerback beaded straps. And then there’s the pièce de la résistance of the entire collection—Isabelle.
This is another earlier piece that’s had a makeover. It first launched in classic black, and later plum and navy blue. But the real standout is the ‘multicolor floral’ version, scattered with vibrant blues, pinks and yellows. It feels fun and tropical, but still with an air of sophistication.
Jennifer’s favorite look from the new collection is Stephanie, a faux-leather bralette with a lacy band and decorative, slightly sporty-looking back. “It’s super comfortable and I can wear it with everything,” she told me, “It’s equally beautiful in the front, straps and back as well.”
My own favorite on the other hand is Maya, the wire-free counterpart to the Jayne bra. It’s made from the same metallic lace and hand-beaded straps, but has another, particularly striking flash of silver—a zip-up front. I love the contrast between the delicate lace and the chunky zipper!
It would be remiss of me to not also mention Avery Rose’s first bodysuit, Carly, once again made from that sparkling metallic lace. With crystal straps, a plunging back, and lots of shimmer, it’s definitely a piece you’ll want to show off.
As for bottoms, Jennifer has chosen to stick with a simple silhouette across the brand, keeping the focus on the bead-and crystal-adorned bras. Made from the same beautiful fabrics, the briefs and thongs have low-rise fronts and elastic sides. And they’re all unembellished, for comfort and discreetness under clothing.
Avery Rose’s retail prices for the new collection range from $33-$66 for bottoms, $98-$231 for bralettes, and $264-$319 for wired bras. The pricing varies depending on the level and type of embellishment, meaning there’s something for both high-end and medium budgets. The sizing runs from XS-L and 32B-36DD.
I loved the brand’s debut collection, but it’s even better seeing them evolve and flourish. I’m told some swimwear, loungewear and luxurious silk lingerie is already in the works, and may make an appearance at the show if you’re lucky. You can find Avery Rose at stand 452 at CURVENEWYORK from February 25th to 27th.
