Meet Evelyn & Bobbie, the Brand Redesigning the Bra
“The Everyday Bustier has no seams to itch or rub. It’s soft on your skin and smooth under clothes.” -Bree McKeen, founder and CEO
Evelyn & Bobbie is a lingerie brand that’s firmly rooted in ‘apparel tech’—every aspect of their product range, from fabrics to color choices, has its foundation in modern technology.
The brand officially opened for business in January of this year, following a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $400,000 to launch their Everyday Bustier. It´s a convertible-to-strapless bra without underwire–but it’s not like any wire-free bra you’ve ever owned before!
The support in the Everyday Bustier comes from what Evelyn & Bobbie call the ‘EB Core’, a flexible and three-dimensional structure that is shaped like your rib. The EB Core lifts from below your bust allowing you to carry weight on your core and not your delicate neck and shoulders muscles even when you are wearing the straps. Unlike a narrow wire, it’s more of a curved sheet that wraps around and hugs the entire lower breast. And it’s built right into the cup, sandwiched between layers of foam.
The Everyday Bustier lifts your bust from underneath that’s why it can work just fine without the straps. But with no hard or narrow parts—metal or otherwise—it’s designed to be a more comfortable alternative for women who don’t get along with a traditional underwire.
The back of the Everyday Bustier is a simple band of smooth elastic, and it closes at the front with a rose-gold clasp.
“Our EB Core bra technology is a radically transformed architecture that provides 360-degree support, virtually seamless comfort, and confidence—all day,” explains Bree McKeen, founder and CEO, “The Everyday Bustier has no seams to itch or rub. It’s soft on your skin and smooth under clothes.”
The bra is also lacking the hook-and-eye fastening that has become so ubiquitous, and which some people find a little fiddly. Instead, the back of the Everyday Bustier is a simple band of smooth elastic, and it closes at the front with a rose-gold clasp.
McKeen was inspired to launch the brand when she couldn’t find what she was looking for in a store – either in terms of comfort or aesthetics. “Bra companies are marketing companies, not product companies,” she says. “They focus more on sparkles and bows than a product that does the job.”
What’s more, the company is made up of engineers, designers and passionate problem solvers, McKeen adds. “We are based in Portland, Oregon, a hub for ground-breaking performance apparel design. We are unique among performance apparel companies because we truly design through biomimicry: rooted first in the celebration of the natural form and second in technology”.
Four-way Stretch Knickers
Every great bra needs a matching knicker, and the Everyday Bustier has a choice of three—high-waist thong, bikini brief, or girl short. And in true Evelyn & Bobbie fashion, they’re more technologically advanced than what you’d expect to find at your local mall.
“When you wear our knickers, you’re wearing an exquisitely engineered fabric,” says McKeen, “It’s crafted using cutting-edge manufacturing techniques and truly futuristic materials. That’s why they look so perfectly seamless and smooth and feel so insanely soft.”
Not just that, but they have specifically engineered a four-way stretch fabric which allows for stretching to fit most sizes 0-14
A Spectrum of Choice
Another example of that tech-first focus in action is the color palette. The Everyday Bustier and matching Knickers are all available in five different shades of nude, but they weren’t just picked arbitrarily. The brand took skin tone scans from real women and combined them with new color matching technology to arrive at its chosen shades.
Lace in the Mix
There’s also a sixth choice, Midnight Lace, for the fashion-conscious shopper. In navy blue and black, it’s digitally-printed for an equally smooth finish under clothing.
New Looks for the New Year
“When you wear our knickers, you’re wearing an exquisitely engineered fabric,” – Bree McKeen.
Currently, these four products – the bra and matching bottoms – make up the Evelyn & Bobbie offering, but there’s more to come. New colors, styles, and cuts will start dropping in January 2019, including further expansion into inclusive sizing that will now cover US sizes 16 to 24.
