Olivia von Halle SS13
It’s hard to believe—well, at least for me—that the holidays are already upon us. Just checked the clock and yes, it is now Christmas Eve! Even more startling is that the New Year is steadily coming closer and closer. Only a few days ago did it seem like 2012 was at its start but here we are, gathering with friends, family and lovers for that time of year again.
Whenever conjuring images of Christmas cheer one of the first that comes to my mind is a family surrounded by an elegantly decorated tree, still dressed in their pajamas, the children ripping open gifts and the parents standing off to the side grinning as they watch. That is why when we received images of Olivia von Halle’s SS13 collection, my immediate thought was wow, I want to be wearing a pajama set like that for Christmas…or possibly to the South Hamptons for New Years. Anyone want to join me?
Having worked in Shanghai, China as a trend forecaster for several years, Olivia would often come home from work only to ditch her high heels and constricting outfits for something more glamorous and comfortable. Inspired by the lounging pajamas worn by Coco Chanel and her contemporaries in the 1920’s, Olivia von Halle set out to create the perfect pair of pajamas. Working with her Shanghainese tailor, Olivia created her first collection and launched it a year later at London Fashion Week in September 2011.
The Eponymous collection for SS13 plays with the idea of women wearing their lover’s clothes. This concept comes into being through the use of beautiful tailoring, oversized cuts, and masculine accents. The end result is a line with an androgynous direction, a mixture of masculinity with contemporary, feminine edge. The collection is characterized by three styles: Lila, Alba, and Coco.
Pieces in the Lila style come in host of intricate prints ranging from the simple deep lavender and Bermuda green Namalee to the cornflower blue, dove grey, and cream Sussy. The Lila range features long sleeved button-down shirts and drawstring pants with white piped silk trims.
The Coco takes its inspiration from gentleman chic. The silk pajama set has a traditional masculine collar and tailored wide legged trousers with silk pipe detailing. This range comes in three colors: Royal Blue, Deep Fuschia, and Cream. Unlike the Lila style, the Coco shirts feature three pockets on the front.
The Abla range showcases a man’s shirt incorporated with a feminine finish paired together with shorts rather than pants. The style comes in two geometric prints: Kitty and Alice.
The pieces of Olivia’s SS13 collection are easy to mix and match and provide a lot of room for versatility. The shirts easily transcend the bedroom, as seen through these gorgeous images.
