Taryn Winters FW18 Lingerie Collection
“Taryn Winters is a brand that’s brimming with femininity. It feels glamorous in an elegant and understated way.”
Taryn Winters is part of a rare breed of lingerie designers who debuted with a very clear vision of what they wanted their brand to be right from the start. It takes many independent designers at least a couple of seasons to really find their footing. Winters’ brand however, while it may still be in its infancy, already has a perfectly-defined aesthetic.
From the moment she launched, Winters knew exactly who her customer was and what she wanted to wear. That’s why her three releases to date have all felt not just flawless as standalone collections, but in perfect harmony with one another too. It’s no wonder then that Winters was selected by Journelle as one of its four Emerging Designers of 2017, and continues to work closely with the brand.

Today we’re featuring Taryn Winters’ third collection, for Fall/Winter 2018. As always, it’s handmade in the designer’s hometown of NYC. This is the same city where she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology, honing her couture sewing technique. For design inspiration, she draws on her background in ballet and the performing arts, to create lingerie that exudes a sense of elegance and refinement.
Sweet Dreams are Made of This
Above: Nyx Nightgown.
Winters works exclusively with lace, embroidery and other sheer materials. From delicate lace trims to voluminous chiffon draping, her work feels wonderfully light and airy. The pièce de résistance is the stunning Nyx nightgown, with its extra-long hem that puddles at your feet. Each Taryn Winters collection to date has included a floor-sweeping gown, but this one has to be my favorite. It’s made from flecked metallic fabric for a subtle shimmer, with plain chiffon godets to add extra drama. And with thigh-high slits at either side, it will swish and glide as gracefully as a ballerina as you walk around.
Barely-there Italian Mesh

Another stand-out range is Satine, a bodysuit and bra set made from barely-there Italian mesh. They’re topped with a scattering of bead-encrusted, hand-embroidered stars, a popular motif in lingerie right now. The bodysuit especially has a wonderful simplicity, while still feeling ultra-special.

The similarly-named Sabine range is another one for those who like their lingerie to shimmer and sparkle. Crafted from glittering metallic tulle, the silhouettes have been kept simple to let the fabric do all the talking. There’s a demi-bra, thong and garter belt, plus a striking bodysuit that plays with the sheerness of the fabric to create graphic lines out of the seams. A narrow belt with a silver metal fastening at the front completes the effect.
Above: Kharis bespoke longline bra.
The Kharis longline bra (the only made-to-order piece in the collection) is another sparkling design, encrusted as it is with hand-appliquéd floral beading. But if you prefer your intimates minimal in style, there’s also a Kharis demi bra (a re-release from F/W 2017) that’s free from decorative elements. Just simple and chic sheer mesh with a pretty picot trim.

Four more ranges complete Taryn Winters’ Fall/Winter 2018. Jasmin is a classic, black lace bra, boyshort and garter belt set with wide, scalloped trims. It’s the kind of timelessly-elegant lingerie set that will never go out of style. Then there’s Charlotte, another three-piece set with an underwire bra that’s styled to look like a bralette. Made from a monochrome, French web lace, it is at once simple and supremely decadent. The kind of lingerie you could wear for everyday, or for a special occasion.

Then there’s Olivia, a beautiful chiffon robe with draped, Bishop-style sleeves. And finally, the already-available Karmay bodysuit, another of my favourite pieces. Made from all-over sheer mesh and with carefully-placed lines to enhance your curves, it’s the most modern and daring piece from the collection. This one’s a continuation of another F/W 17 piece, the Karmay high-waist panty, just another sign that Winters knows her style and is sticking to it.
As with both previous collections, the Fall/Winter 2018 one is on the smaller side but tightly-edited. Every piece feels well thought-out, included only because it adds something special or different to the selection.

Taryn Winters is a brand that’s brimming with femininity. It feels glamorous in an elegant and understated way. That’s a balance that’s difficult to get right, but Winters makes it look effortless. If you or your customers are after polished, grown-up luxury, this is definitely one to watch!
