The Fresh Insight into Fashion & Home Trends Seminar Held in NYC

On December 6th, 2012, the Paris Region Economic Development Agency (PREDA) gathered over one hundred New York journalists, associations, key players and professionals of the fashion and home design industries at the French Consulate in New York. The 2012 “Paris – New York: The Fresh Insight into Fashion & Home Trends” conference discussed the fashion and design trends and evolution, as well as the vital role the Paris trade shows play in showcasing them. The conference aimed also to expand international business development opportunities between the USA and Paris-based fashion and home design trade shows and industries.

The event was inaugurated in the salon rose by Mr. Jean-Luc Margot-Duclot, Senior Vice-President ofthe Paris Region Economic Development Agency (PREDA).

The discussion started with a macro trends presentation by Mr. Vincent Grégoire & Mr. Pierre François Le Louët of Paris-based trends forecasting agency NellyRodi™. Paris trade shows organizers who flew in from France for the event included: Mr. Philippe Brocart, Managing Director at SAFI (MAISON&OBJET), Mr. Frédéric Bougeard, International Sales & Business Development Director at SAFI and Mr. Boris Provost, Head of Communications & International Development at WSN (WHO’S NEXT PARIS). Also present was Mr. Pierre Nicolas Hurstel, the New York-based Vice President of CURVExpo (the American subsidiary of Eurovet, organizer of lingerie & swimwear trade fairs).

Together with American experts, they discussed how the presented trends are reflected in the trade shows as well as in today’s market, everyday experience and consumer behaviors. American speakers included: Ms. Carole Hochman, Chairman & Chief Creative Officer, Carole Hochman Design Group; Mr. Steven Kolb, Chief Executive Officer, Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Ms. Su Hilty, Vice President Awards & Recognition, NY International Furnishings & Design Association (IFDA).

Before wrapping up the discussion, Jean-Luc Margot Duclot (PREDA), together with Mr. Vincent Grégoire, Mr. Philippe Brocart and fashion columnist Polly Guerin of PollyTalk, discussed how Paris embraces its creative tradition and commercial success.

Mr. Jean-Luc Margot-Duclot stated that the Paris region is a major economic center and gateway to the European market, which represents 500 million consumers. With a GDP of 570 billion Euros and 48,000 Euros/capita, the region offers unique opportunities for American exporters or investors. After the presentation, attendees adjourned to the salon chapelle for a cocktail reception, where they were able to mingle with the show organizers.

All agreed on the huge potential provided by the Paris region trade shows and conferences given their international presence, commercial opportunities, and access to markets and business opportunities. The trade shows in the Paris Region are great international business platforms for visitors and exhibitors to promote their products and services at one of the world’s biggest marketplace. It was emphasized that Paris is the only city in the world to offer such a complete stage for fashion and home design trade shows.

Before this event at the French consulate, one to one interviews were organized, between the Paris based trade shows organizers and American contacts including media, institutions associations, and key players of the fashion and home design industries.
