The Lingerie Collective NYC Report

The Lingerie Collective NYC Report

“I personally felt The Lingerie Collective garnered some incredible talent that was showcased in a perfect boutique setting. It was intimate. The designers passionate,” – Ashley M. Kelsch, Teddies for Bettys

The TLJ team is still recovering from an unprecedented level of lingerie activity from February. One of the events we were intimately part of as a media sponsor was the Lingerie Collective’s first US Show. The show made its debut last month with an impressive list of exhibitors from the UK, US and abroad: Lascivious, ResultWear, FYI By Dani Read, Marika Vera, Relique, Dottie’s Delights, Kinky Knickers, MC Lounge, Kallisti by Marios Schwab and Darkest Star.

“I felt the show was a fantastic way to show elevated brands in an airy open space allowing you to spend time with your buyers,” said Kiana Anvaripour, ResultWear

The event spanned three days with buyers from Anthropologie, Faire Frou Frou, Sugar Cookies, Journelle, Lille Boutique, Brooklyn Fox, Teddies for Bettys, La Petite Coquette, Contours Lingerie and many more stopping by to see the exhibitors’ AW13 collections. Consumer and trade press along with bloggers also visited with exhibitors as well.

“I personally felt The Lingerie Collective garnered some incredible talent that was showcased in a perfect boutique setting. It was intimate. The designers passionate,” said Ashley M. Kelsch of Teddies for Bettys. “I literally found myself wanting to visit with and preview each designers collection. I can see how this show will continue to grow in time…hopefully not too much.”

“I was so pleased with the show and I hope it doubles in size for August.” – Alison Rubke, Faire Frou Frou

Held at the luxurious and sleek Studio 320 (a 12 minute walk from Javits), the venue stayed in tune with the Lingerie Collective’s format and style and offered visiting buyers and press a more intimate and relaxed trade show experience.

“It was certainly an essential part of our trip. Some of the best-of-the-boutique brands were there and to have a smaller venue with a hand-selected group of designers is an important part of the business,” said Alison Rubke of Faire Frou Frou. “I was so pleased with the show and I hope it doubles in size for August.”

“As a fairly small, growing independent brand, the Lingerie Collective was a perfect step to gain visibility with important buyers and continue our growth in the right direction,” – Stephanie Kuhr, Dottie’s Delights

“I felt the show was a fantastic way to show elevated brands in an airy open space allowing you to spend time with your buyers,” said Kiana Anvaripour, Head Designer and CEO of ResultWear by dMondaine. “For its first year it attracted some great stores and I can only imagine it will get better. I have also attended the London show which was wonderful for us. The best stores in the UK, boutiques and major department stores.”

“If I was a lingerie designer launching a new brand, the Lingerie Collective would be the show I would choose to launch at,” noted Rubke. “I actually suggest to independent designers who ask where to exhibit to choose a show like the Lingerie Collective. It’s a great investment for their company.”

First time exhibitors Chelsea Carson and Kait Vasquez of Relique echoed Alison’s sentiments about the show saying, “We are so happy with the results and the turn out from stores at the Collective! As a new brand it’s hard to pick the right place to start off from and couldn’t be more happy with our choice in showcasing at the collective. Everyone there was incredibly nice, positive, and helpful. We really felt welcome and have already signed up to show our spring collection this August with them again!”

The next edition of the Lingerie Collective is planned for August 2013. We’ll keep our readers updated on the details as they come in and the TLJ team will be featuring more editorial on each of the exhibitors in the coming weeks as well. FYI by Dani Read was founded in late 2010 as a new luxury lingerie brand with a dark, high-fashion style. The brand is created for a bold and empowered woman, and perfectly embodies the femme fatale archetype. FYI pieces are cut from fine leathers and silks, and feature erotic functional details that set it apart from all other brands.
FYI shuns the lingerie industry’s traditional portrayal of women as perky pin-ups or delicate flowers. Women are weapons. Dress yourself as such.

RELIQUE (pronounced ray-leak) is a New York City based lingerie company founded by Chelsea Carson and Kait Vasquez. RELIQUE uses graphic lingerie shapes accented with experimental fabric dyeing and trimming combinations. The focus in each collection is lingerie that is meant to be seen as a piece of fashion rather than traditional lingerie while still keeping it’s sex appeal. They believe lingerie doesn’t need to be just for the bedroom or hidden under clothing, it should be an enhancement to an outfit. By taking a more modern approach in design they want to fill the gap between basics and special occasion and give lingerie outerwear functionality.

Darkest Star is run by the quirky design duo Sam and Andy D’Cruze. The two met while Sam was studying womenswear design at London’s Central St. Martins. After spending quite a bit time working in the fashion and photography industry, the two decided to combine their skills, passion for design, and eye for detail.
The brand specializes in erotic accessories with a unique twist, aimed at the luxury end of the market. As they put it, “an unintimidating, chic alternative to light bondage.”
