As more and more brands start to carry sizes up to DD, E cups have become the new hard-to-fit size. Tracy Reed, owner of online luxury lingerie boutique The Pink Duchess, wears a fuller cup bra herself and knows a thing or two about fitting women with large breasts. It was out of her own personal need that the business was born.
Tracy says that customers are drawn to the site because they see themselves in her. “I am my customer,” she says. “I’m full busted and know how challenging it is to find pretty lingerie above an “E” Cup. I speak their language. Customers see me and know they can trust me to have something that will work for them.”
Tracy says she makes it a point not to stock any size below a DD in the shop that she runs along with help from her mother.
It was Tracy’s mother who suggested she launch a website to help solve her problem finding fashionable bras and underwear in her size. “Designing wasn’t an option…I’m not that creative,” she says on her website. “Instead, I searched the Internet and discovered a lingerie world I never knew existed. Imagine the look on my face when I realized I was finally able to build my dream lingerie wardrobe.”
Additionally, Tracy offers custom-order pieces such as underbust corsets from Orchid Corsetry. And she’s got her eye on goodies from Katherine Hamilton, Marjolaine and Jane Woolrich.
A Range of Duchesses
The Pink Duchess caters to women in a wide range of ages, spanning from 30 to 70 years of age. She breaks it down like this: “Our customers are one of the following: Duchess One is in her 30s; Duchess Two is in her 40s +; Duchess Three is in her 70s +,” she says.
According to Tracy, Duchess One will order a beautiful silk kimono from the boutique and pair it with jeans for an evening out. On the other hand, Duchess Three will order the same kimono to wear as it was intended—on the deck enjoying a glass of wine or cup of coffee.
“These women may vary in age, but they all share a passion for beautiful lingerie and a full bust,” says Tracy. “Our customer is a fashionista. She loves to travel and enjoys the finer things in life. She works hard, but loves to pamper herself and knows lingerie isn’t for her partner, but for herself.”
The Pink Duchess fans can expect even more fashion-forward styles this year. In 2019 Tracy will be adding designers Dora Larsen and Ginia to the site.
