The Power of Lace: “I Dreamed I Went To The Flower Show”

In the days of Mad Men, lingerie advertisements used the concept of dreams to encourage female readers. “I dreamed I went to the flower show” was one of many dream themes used by Maiden Form. While I like what they were going for, I have a funny feeling their idea of a flower show and mine are slightly different. I’m not saying you shouldn’t wear lingerie to the theatre, flower show, or sightseeing; but I doubt that’s what you are dreaming about when you put on Claudette. The first step to magical thinking just might be hiding in your underwear drawer.
Chipped nail polish (no time to repaint today,) an ice coffee in one hand, my iphone in the other, and I’m out the door. The only thing separating this morning from others is the neon pink and orange bra I’m wearing. Typically when I shop for lingerie I tend to go for the more practical colors, but after today’s experience, all of that has changed.
“Okay, so the fairies aren’t wearing lingerie, but they might as well be.”
One would think the fairies from Fantasia dreamed up these bras with their magic wands to the sounds of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Sweet. Okay, so the fairies aren’t wearing lingerie, but they might as well be. And if there were ever a brand for magical fairies, it truly is Claudette.
Wearing Claudette is like leaving the house with a wand in your hand. Through these Fantasia inspired self portraits I hope to eliminate the distinction between decoration and substance allowing the imagination to run free the way mine did while wearing Claudette. Bringing the Fredrick’s of Hollywood 1940’s concept of incorporating fantasy into advertising to the next level.
My first stop was the good ol’ gynecologist’s office. Upon entering, the nurse immediately complimented my hot pink bra, as it caught the eyes of everyone in the waiting room. If you’re going to wear a hot pink and orange bra, wear the hot pink and orange bra; incorporate it into your look for the day.
“Thank you! Aren’t the colors fantastic?!” My cute white sundress I had paired with the bra had somehow managed to magically appear at my waist.
It was then that I realized I was not in the stirrups yet, but was indeed still in the waiting room, and I had just shown everyone there my mesh, neon bra. Woops! I put my sundress back where it belonged and we all giggled. What had gotten into me?! It’s amazing what a little kick of color in your lingerie can do. Claudette’s choice of palette suddenly became responsible for the entire waiting room talking about adding some color to their underwear drawers.
“Claudette has helped me to discover the importance of lingerie to the female imagination”
On my way back to the train I found myself stopping to commune with the flowers more than I usually would, particularly the ones that reminded me of the bra I was wearing. It’s true what they say, “stop and smell the roses.” The Dessous bra definitely inspires magical thinking. Claudette has helped me to discover the importance of lingerie to the female imagination.
My boyfriend, Buffalo, has taken a liking to this column, developing what he calls: “The Buffalo Meter.” While the concept is still in development, I have to say, this bra and thong set certainly scored the highest on his ticker thus far.
Claudette provides fashion forward designs for every size, even those of us who have a larger bust than most. Their designs are both innovative and functional from neons to retro inspired two-toned sets and high waisted panties.
“Wearing a unique palette like the ones Claudette offers, makes the task of leaving the world a slightly better place, seem less daunting. It is amazing what colors can do to our mood and energy.”
One should always have the staple white cotton bra, but don’t forget to add a couple of vibrant pieces to get the party started. A little punch of color to remind ourselves to never stop being playful. It will be stimulating for both you and those that surround you. Particularly for someone like me who wears a bra 24-7, if you’re going to have it on, embrace it rather than trying to hide it. If the straps show, let them show!
Wearing a unique palette like the ones Claudette offers, makes the task of leaving the world a slightly better place, seem less daunting. It is amazing what colors can do to our mood and energy. Perhaps hyper-colored lingerie is the new anti-depressant.
