Q&A with Abisola Latzel, Trouvai Lingerie

Abisola, could you tell us a little bit about how you started Trouvai?
As a young girl growing up in Lagos, Nigeria and wearing a D+ size bra, finding great quality, good fitting lingerie that was trendy and stylish was always a challenge. I would rely on friends traveling out for the country to get lingerie and bras for me. This was the case for my friends and family too. I started to realize that I wasn’t the only one with this problem.
Another thing that was missing was the luxury lingerie shopping experience, where women could get a professional bra fitting and shop in a relaxed environment. It took about two years of research, sourcing, sampling but finally the brand was launched in April 2017 with the opening of our Flagship store.

Could you give our readers a little insight into your background?
I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Lagos, Nigeria and I have Masters in International Business from Bradford school of Management UK. I worked as an IT project coordinator for a few years before I launched Trouvai.

The Trouvai philosophy is “To create beautiful, great fitting lingerie for the modern sophisticated woman.” How exactly does this get put into practice each season?
Today’s modern woman is always on the move, she has a career, she’s an entrepreneur, a wife, a mom. So now, more than ever, she wants to be comfortable as she goes about her day-to-day tasks. We wanted our lingerie to provide that comfort, to become pieces that our customers reach for everyday. But also the pieces needed to be trendy, stylish and sexy to reflect the style of the modern woman. So we designed a collection that had a trendy take on classic silhouettes. We created our lingerie sets with suspenders, detachable straps, chemise etc that could easily be paired for an every day or a boudoir look.
Our Swimwear range was inspired by African culture and created to be fun using bold colors and prints. Creating pieces that the today’s African woman would love is what drives us.

Could you tell us a little bit about how and where Trouvai pieces are made? We’d also love to know more about the fabrics used in your collections!
Our target market is Nigeria and Africa and given the hot and humid climate we selected performance fabrics for our collection that are breathable and moisture wicking. Some of our pieces are made in Lagos, Nigeria and some are made in China. We work with a factory with years of experience making full bust lingerie.
What’s a little known fact that our readers may not know about Trouvai as a brand or any of your products?
Our wires are custom made to give a beautiful natural shape and all Trouvai pieces come with 24K gold plated fittings for that extra luxe finishing.
